As Nigerians join their counterparts across the world to mark 2019 International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation, mothers have been advised to stop the practice of Female Genital Mutilation, FGM.
A nurse, Mrs. Hope Esho who gave the advice while speaking with Radio Nigeria in Ilesa, Osun State, described the practice as harmful and detrimental to the health of the womenfolk.
She said there was need to save female children from the pains being experienced after their genitals had been mutilated, saying the practice had cost the lives of millions of African children.
Mrs. Esho who maintained that the mutilation was usually done when children had no capacity to fight for themselves, said concerted efforts must be made to end the practice in the interest of the female children.
The nurse stressed that, the practice had caused a lot of havoc to female children due to the incidences of blood loss and convulsion always suffered by victims.
